JOB SUMMARY: Supports generation of new business and provides product engineering resolution with components used in exhaust systems for vehicles. PDE holds responsibility for all technical aspects of programs from concept through end of production. Coordinates all upfront engineering activity between customer and manufacturing plant to ensure designs are optimized, designed for foundry manufacturability and meet customer expectations. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: COMMERCIAL ASSISTANCE 1.Supports the Account Manager and Sales Director to generate new business by meeting with customers advanced product and material engineering. 2.Assesses potential application of company products or services and offers engineering solutions that meet customer needs. 3.Researches and presents Wescast product, material and design benefits for customer products. 4.Ensures customer feedback is obtained and utilized for current and future product developments. 5.Uses technical knowledge of company products and capabilities to support and build sales. 6.Relies on extensive experience and judgment to support Marketing's future business forecasts and the Sales Director's planning and accomplishing goals. 7.May provide consultation to superiors on complex business development projects. DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURABILITY AND PERFORMANCE 8.Responsible as design lead on Wescast product designs, and design modifications. Influences OEM lead designs. 9.Leads and coordinates design activities in close cooperation with OEM, other supplier's and Wescast's technical teams when Wescast is design or partial design responsible. Seeks appropriate guidance from subject matter experts. 10.Optimizes design for manufacturing by balancing customer and manufacturing needs and wants and considering all manufacturing inputs as early as possible in the design process. 11.Identifies all design inputs, customer targets and requirements, plans and SOW's. Decides on design direction considering inputs from manufacturing, internal specialists and customers. 12.Coordinates prototype and rapid prototype tooling builds in conjunction with WII tooling groups. Provides input on all other aspects of the tooling build in conjunction with tooling and manufacturing. LIAISON AND COORDINATION 13.Liaises with customers'engineering, materials, purchasing and quality community to establish and meet mutual direction and goals regarding programs, prototype/production (product design) and process changes. 14.Liaises with others throughout the organization to ensure customer requirements are known and met and designs and drawings are kept up to date. 15.Liaises with customers'engineering, materials, purchasing and quality departments, suppliers and sales department to share information and resolve technical issues and report progress. 16.Cooperates with the staff of other departments to give technical advice, share information and to resolve design or production problems. 17.Monitors quotations for prototype tooling to ensure conformance to plan and design. PLANNING 18.Schedules activities to maximize customer contact and fulfill AQP responsibilities. 19.Monitors internal and external progress against plans for prototype, production tool builds production programs and engineering changes and evaluate internal corrective actions and follow up with the Customer as required. 20.Coordinates the development of plans for proto- and production programs through the use of Gantt charts and Customer AQP tracking checklists, establishing and meeting target dates. TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE 21.Maintains a thorough knowledge of the casting, machining, forming, welding, and joining technologies and the materials used in the manufacture of exhaust systems and components. 22.Maintains a thorough knowledge of current and future emissions technologies (eg. precious-metal catalysts, ceramic and metallic substrates, pollutant and particulate traps, secondary air and exhaust gas re-circulation systems, etc.), air flow development, and exhaust component testing and validation techniques. 23.Maintains a thorough knowledge of the global and regional powertrain trends in the automotive industry. OTHER 24.Promotes the principles of WOS and maintains a Continuous Improvement Plan. 25.Understands and supports corporate vision, mandate and establishes and provides clear direction based on this vision. 26.Provides leadership and coaches others to participate and contribute their ideas. 27.Investigates, shares and implements best practices within their areas of responsibility. 28.Complies with company policies and procedures. 29.Performs other tasks as assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS: -Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical/material engineering or the equivalent knowledge. -Preferred to have 3-5 years of experience in exhaust systems, exhaust manifolds, or engine development. -Preferred 3-5 years experience in machining, tooling, casting with a solid understanding of metallurgy. -Experience providing design and customer services to OEM engineering departments. -Knowledgeable of OEM products, development and AQP systems. -Must able to interpret CAD models and part prints and Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing -Excellent communication and presentation skills; English and Mandarin. |
