Job Responsibilities

The primary responsibility for this position is to work as part of a team of administrators to help maintain the UNIX/Linux environment for our customer. Provide day to day support of the environments using defined change control processes. The customer environment is made up of 80+ HP-UX, 70+ Red Hat Linux, three AIX, and three Solaris servers. Many of the servers utilize EMC SAN storage. The UNIX administration team is responsible for the support of these systems. In addition, UNIX administrators are responsible for, or assist with, the server backups using Veritas NetBackup, and/or IBM TSM. In order to provide 24x7 availability for the environment rapid coordination with HP, Red Hat, and other support personnel are essential when issues arise.
Specific duties include;
• Create, modify, and remove user accounts on UNIX/Linux servers
• Create, modify and remove file systems, ASM devices, and raw logical volumes
• Monitor system logs for issues requiring attention
• Develop and maintain system support procedures and documentation
• Participate in internal or external audits, providing requested information in a timely manner
• Assist with the installation and configuration of new UNIX/Linux servers as required
• Implement patches and upgrades according to architecture and security guidelines
• Analyze and solve system problems
• Monitor system configurations to maintain compliance with security and configuration standards
• Work closely with the Operations, Applications and Infrastructure teams to maintain a stable environment
• Must be a self-starter who takes ownership of work
• Must be able to prioritize work and plan future activities
• Work as part of the team yet can work independently with some supervision.
• Open requests and changes via the change control system
• Adheres to and complies with all customer and Dell policies
• Accepts and performs other related duties as assigned by Management and/or the technical team lead
• Provides weekly status reports of completed and ongoing activities to Management
• Actively participate in team meetings
• Accurately manage and record time for each project and day-to-day activities
• Participate on the scheduled on-call rotation
